Enhancers of conidiation mutants in Aspergillus nidulans.
Mutants at a number of loci, designated sthenyo, have been isolated as enhancers of the oligoconidial mutations at the medA locus. Two loci have been mapped: sthA on linkage group I, and sthB on linkage group V. Two probable alleles have been identified at each locus but two further mutants were unlinked to either sthA or sthB. Neither sthA nor sthB mutants have conspicuous effects on morpholog...
متن کاملRegulation of conidiation by light in Aspergillus nidulans.
Light regulates several aspects of the biology of many organisms, including the balance between asexual and sexual development in some fungi. To understand how light regulates fungal development at the molecular level we have used Aspergillus nidulans as a model. We have performed a genome-wide expression analysis that has allowed us to identify >400 genes upregulated and >100 genes downregulat...
متن کاملA quantitative survey of conidiation mutants in Aspergillus nidulans.
A quantitative survey has been made of conidiation mutants in Aspergillus nidulans. Conidiation mutants were 6 to I 3 times more numerous than auxotrophic mutants, but growth tests showed that the mutant defect in 85 % of the conidiation mutants was not confined to conidiation. The number of loci specifically involved in conidiation was estimated to be 45 to 150. Mutants were classified accordi...
متن کاملAnalysis of fluG mutations that affect light-dependent conidiation in Aspergillus nidulans.
Conidiation in Aspergillus nidulans is induced by exposure to red light but can also be induced by blue light in certain mutant strains. We have isolated a mutation in the fluG gene that abolishes responsiveness to red light but does not affect the response to blue light. It has been shown that the veA1 (velvet) mutation allows conidiation to occur in the absence of light. We have identified th...
متن کاملAspergillus nidulans conidiation genes dewA, fluG, and stuA are differentially regulated in early vegetative growth.
Microarray analysis was used to identify transcriptional changes in early vegetative growth of the filamentous fungus Aspergillus nidulans. The results suggest that the previously identified conidiation genes dewA, fluG, and stuA may function in isotropic expansion during early vegetative growth and asexual reproduction.
